About Discipline and Guidance Parent Groups

Simplicity Parenting Discipline and Guidance Parent Groups bring together small groups of like-minded parents to explore and discover new ways of dealing with the challenges of providing loving but firm discipline and guidance to our children.

The Simplicity Parenting approach to discipline is based on understanding a child’s needs and developmental stages, and seeks to provide guidance through coming together and strengthening a family's values rather than through conflict and punishment.

Parent Groups are led by a Certified Simplicity Parenting Group Leader and are held in person when possible or virtually through interactive video calls, and there are three different classes offered, based on the age of your child: “The First Nine Years,” “The Tween Years (9-13),” and “The Teen Years (14-19).”

In-person classes consist of three gatherings of approximately 2-1/2 hours each. Virtual classes typically consist of more gatherings of shorter length.

Tuition for the classes is $89 USD each plus a $29 materials fee, and pre-registration is required. (Participant Materials are purchased directly from the Simplicity Parenting Institute. A couple may share a single set of Participant Materials.)

If you'd like to be informed when the next class opens up, please fill out the form below to add your name to our interest list, and indicate which class you’re interested in. We’ll let you know as soon as registration opens.

If you have any questions, please see the FAQ below and/or CLICK HERE to send us an email.

About Julianne Hyma, M.S

Hello, I’m Julianne. I am a Certified Simplicity Parenting Discipline & Guidance Group Leader. I am also a homeschooling Mom of six with a Masters degree in Education; over 20 years of experience working with amazing people (both big and small) in the fields of Education and Human Resources; and a HUGE heart for helping others!

Shaped by years of experience as a foster parent, and later as an adoptive mom, I finally discovered the amazing grace of Simplicity Parenting. I am passionate about sharing the Simplicity Parenting approach with other parents, particularly with other foster and adoptive parents. I understand first-hand the challenge of parenting children with a trauma background, as well as children with varying special needs.

Through a series of small, doable steps, I can help you…
  • Build a strong foundation on which to create change in your home
  • Shift your engagement with your children from frustration to calm-centeredness
  • Learn some amazingly simply techniques to redirect your child’s behavior
  • Ease your doubt as a parent, particularly with respect to discipline
  • Build confidence as you navigate through the stages of your child’s life
  • Create a network of supportive people to help keep you during difficult times
  • Embrace life in ways that produce less stress and more home-life balance
Groups that I have worked with in the past include foster & adoptive parents; veterans; parochial school teachers; social workers; former foster youth; cancer patients & their families; and homeschoolers.

Frequently Asked Questions

About The Soul of Discipline

In this groundbreaking material, parenting expert and acclaimed author of the bestselling book Simplicity Parenting, Kim John Payne, M.Ed., flips the script on children’s challenging or defiant behavior and lays out an elegantly simple plan to support parents in establishing loving, age-sensitive boundaries that help children feel safe and settled.

Payne gives parents heartwarming help and encouragement by combining astute observations with sensitive and often funny stories from his long career as a parent educator and a school and family counselor.

Practical and rooted in common sense, The Soul of Discipline gives parents permission to be warm and nurturing but also calm and firm (not overreactive). It gives clear, doable strategies to get things back on track for parents who sense that their children’s behavior has fallen into a troubling pattern.

Best of all, it provides healthy direction to the entire family so parents can spend less time and energy on outmoded, punitive discipline and more on connecting with and enjoying their kids.
